Yes, we may be able to help you find teachers or others studying Irish in your area. We can help you find self-learning books and websites and we are always here to answer any questions you have about the language.

Hello,

My name is Mathew and I have only recently found an interest in the Irish language even though I learned many years ago that some of my heritage comes from the Ulster (sp?) region of Ireland. It was this interest the led me to IGTF and then here for some translations to start with then hopefully if I can find enough patience within myself, I can eventually start to learn some of the language.

Welcome, Mathew. Tá fáilte romhat anseo. Hope we can help you achieve all of your goals.

(And yes, Ulster is the correct spelling. ;) )

Fáilte, a Mathew! Nice to meet you. Hang around a bit. There's plenty to learn by just browsing the forum. :D

Hi everyone, my name is Rosemary and I am Australian with many Irish ancestors. I have been doing my family history and have found many records and some things that I thought I might get some help in translating. Already Redwolf has helped me with one, so I really appreciate your efforts.

I visited Ireland for the first time in 2010 and absolutely loved it. I should have had lessons before I went because I pronounced everything the wrong way. I wanted to visit Timogue in Laois where some of my ancestors are from and noone in Stradbally knew where I was talking about until I spelt it out. A very nice lady then told me it is pronounced Timock. I love the accent. I think this forum is a great idea to promote such a beautiful language.

Dia Dhaoibh,

Is mise Annabeth, agus bhi mé ar an bhforam IGTF, ach...everyone left  Tá siad déanta na fírinne (?) an-helpful!!! The ability to ask questions, and try and read through people's conversations as Gaelige.

Hoping I will find this place just as enjoyable as IGTF! (With no bloody banners!!!! )

Haha. Go raibh maith agaibh!!! ;) Is deas gach duine a feiceamh (?) aríst. (Correct me at anytime, Le do thoil, but I try and take random shots, even if they're extremely long shots, whenever it's even slightly possible!!!!)

:GRMA:
